Box Score Four second-period goals made the difference as the University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team topped the Brock Badgers 5-2 on Sunday, January 18 in St. Catharines, Ont.
With the win, the Blues improve to 11-3-3 and move into a tie for fourth place with the Guelph Gryphons.
Down 1-0 after 20 minutes, Toronto quickly evened the score with a goal off the stick of Amanda Ricker. Then, midway through the frame, the Blues exploded for three goals in four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Veteran forwards Jaqueline Scheffel and Sonja Weidenfelder scored two minutes apart and Katherine Gale added the fourth of the period just over one minute later.
Toronto held a 4-2 lead heading into the final frame.
Third-year forward Taylor Day added an insurance marker midway through the third period to round out the scoring.
Blues netminder Nicole Kesteris posted 16 saves in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, January 24 as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Varsity Arena. Game time is set for 4 p.m.Â
