BLUES FALL TO NO. 3 MUSTANGS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team dropped a 63-15 decision to the No. 3 Western Mustangs on Saturday, September 20 at TD Stadium.
 
The loss drops the Blues to 1-3 on the season, while Western improves to 3-0.

The highlight of the day came early in the second quarter when Aaron Gazendam kicked a CIS-record 101-yard punt from Toronto's own 24-yard line that went into Western's end zone. The punt passes Calgary Dinos Brent Matich's 100-yard strike set on Oct. 25, 1986 vs Alberta. 
 
Fourth-year quarterback Simon Nassar was 11-of-21 for 177 yards and one touchdown, while third-year pivot Chris Jugovic was 7-for-14 for 81 yards and one major.
 
Michael Kanopolous led Toronto's receivers with two catches for 77 yards with Domenic Battistella making four receptions for 48 yards, including a 20-yard touchdown reception towards the end of the second quarter.
 
Running back Ashton Rochester also added a 42-yard catch and run TD late in the game.
 
Toronto's defence notched four interceptions on the day. Brittley Mokube, JJ Lam, Jaiden McBride and Corey Williams each picked off Western's starting quarterback Will Finch.
 
McBride led all players with 11.5 tackles, while Lam had nine in the loss.
 
The Varsity Blues return home this Saturday, September 27, as they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees in what will be the 999th game in program history. U of T will honour 2014 Hall of Fame inductee Rick Kollins as well as members of the all-century team. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
