The Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team travelled to Hamilton to face the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday, September 17. After much back and forth play, McMaster walked away with a 12-10 win over Toronto.
The Blues came out strong in the first quarter leading the Marauders 4-2 with goals from Mike McKegney (Westmount, Ont.), AJ Masson (Newmarket, Ont.), Jordan Robertson (Toronto, Ont.), and Michael Buwalda (Toronto, Ont.).
U of T lost their lead in the second quarter when McMaster replied with four goals, two coming from Ryan Adams (Oakville, Ont.). The Marauders led the Blues 6-5 going into halftime.
McMaster kept the pressure on in the third quarter adding five goals. AJ Masson notched another one for Toronto, and Buwalda got his third of the game, bringing the score to 11-7 McMaster going into the final frame.
Toronto won the fourth quarter, but was unable to rally to for the win. Robertson buried two to complete the hat trick, and Buwalda brought his total to four goals on the night, but it wasn't quite enough as the Marauders won the game 12-10.
The Varsity Blues return home this Sunday, September 21 as they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. Game time is set for 7 p.m at Varsity Centre.
