Box Score 2 The University of Toronto Varsity Blues field hockey team defeated the Guelph Gryphons 3-2 and Western Mustangs 6-0 on Sunday (Oct. 5) in Guelph.

With the wins, the Blues remain atop the OUA standings with a perfect 9-0-0 record, and clinch a bye into the OUA semifinals, set for October 25.Â

In the first game of the day, the Gryphons opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a goal from Olivia Lane; however, the Blues answered right back as OUA leading scorer Alison Lee found the back of the net off a corner.

Toronto went ahead three minutes later, when Emma Wingrave notched her first career goal and the Blues held the 2-1 lead at the half.

CIS all-Canadian Amanda Woodcroft extended U of T's lead to two, scoring the eventual game-winner in the 49th minute off a corner. The Gryphons brought the game back within one with another tally from Lane, but it wasn't enough.

Woodcroft opened the scoring in the second game of the day, with Emma Stairs adding two goals in the win. Anna McNeil, Lee and Alex Thicke each added single goals in the win.Â
