Box Score The No. 10 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team dropped a narrow 2-1 decision to the No. 3 Queen's Gaels on Saturday, October 25 at Kingston Memorial Centre.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 3-1-0, while the Gaels improve to 4-0-0 in the early goings of OUA action.
Queen's forward Jessica Wakefield opened the scoring 9:08 into the game and the home team took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Toronto evened the score late in the second period as a great second effort from Sonja Weidenfelder set up a Taylor Day tally. The two teams were deadlocked at 1-1 heading into the final frame.
Wakefield notched the eventual game-winner, her second goal of the game, with 3:44 remaining in the third to seal the win for the Gaels.
Blues netminder Nicole Kesteris posted 17 saves in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to the ice tomorrow as they head to Oshawa, Ont., to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
