BLUES FALL TO GAELS

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues football team fell 48-27 to the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, October 11 at Richardson Stadium in Kingston, Ont.
 
With the loss, the Blues drop to 1-6 heading into their final game of the season. Toronto hosts the Waterloo Warriors next Saturday, October 18 and will honour their graduating players in a pre-game ceremony. Kick off is set for 1 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale here.
 
Toronto quarterback Simon Nassar went 29-of-52 for 341 yards and three touchdowns, with Llevi Noel and Kevin Bradfield as his favourite targets on the day. Noel made 11 catches for 129 yards and one major, while Bradfield posted six catches for 99 yards. Boris Isakov added five catches for 41 yards and two majors against his former squad.
 
Lukas Gavac led the Blues on the ground, rushing 19 times for 134 yards. JJ Lam and Everton Williams topped Toronto's defence with seven tackles each.
 
The Blues got off to a rough start and the Gaels opened the scoring midway through the first as Curtis Carmichael caught a 68-yard pass. Queen's kicker Dillon Wamsley added an 18-yard field goal and the Gaels held an early 10-0 lead.
 
Toronto rallied, however, first with an Eric Hewitson 35-yard field goal and then evening the score with a six-yard Isakov touchdown reception. That catch capped off a nine-play, 63-yard drive and the game remained deadlocked at 10-10 after the first quarter.
 
The Gaels went ahead with a 22-yard major from receiver Alex Carroll and the home team led 17-10 at halftime.
 
Queen's extended their lead early in the second half with a two-yard rushing TD from Justin Gleben; however, Isakov struck again with an 18-yard touchdown reception to bring the game within seven (24-17) midway through the third quarter.
 
The Gaels added two more touchdowns to secure the lead for good. Nassar did connect a 51-yard pass with Llevi Noel for a late major in the fourth quarter, but Queen's responded on the ensuing drive to round out the win.  
 
Gaels quarterback Billy McPhee was 22-of-35 for 406 yards and three touchdowns. Three Queen's receivers hit triple digits. Carroll made seven receptions for 149 yards and one touchdown, while Doug Corby had six catches for 146 yards and 1 major. Carmichael added four receptions for 112 yards and two TDs.
