BLUES HOST YORK DURING U OF T’S WINTERFEST FRIDAY

The No. 10 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team kicks off the second half of the season when they host the York Lions this Friday night (Jan. 10) at Varsity Arena.

Advanced tickets are on sale here. U of T students are FREE. The game will also be streamed live at GoBlues.tv, starting with puck drop at 7:30 p.m.

The game caps off U of T's Winterfest, an annual weeklong festival featuring cross-campus events and activities for university students. There will be an open skate following the game. For more information, please click here

The Varsity Blues, who cracked the national rankings for the first time this season this week,  hold an 11-3-1 record and are in third place in the competitive OUA standings, while the Lions are 3-11-1 and in 13th.

The Blues, who have allowed an OUA-low 21 goals against, are backstopped by fourth-year netminder Nicole Kesteris. The Aurora, Ont., native sits atop the OUA rankings and is second in the country with an impressive .954 save percentage and four shut outs in 11 games played this season.

Team captain Kelly O'Hanlon (Markham, Ont.) leads the team with 16 points, while second-year stand out Taylor Day of Ilderton, Ont., tops the Blues in scoring with eight goals so far this season. Day and fourth-year veteran forward Amanda Ricker (Ottawa) each have 15 points, while Courtney and Ali Brind-Amour-McClure have notched 13 points apiece.

The Lions are led by Andrea Joyce, who has scored six goals while adding three assists so far this season.  Megan Lee has assumed the starting goaltender role and holds a .905 save percentage in 12 games.

After hosting York on Friday night, the Blues get set for another cross-town battle when they head to Ryerson on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tilt.
