O'HANLON NETS GAME-WINNER OVER LANCERS

Box Score The No. 9 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women`s hockey team defeated the Windsor Lancers 2-1 on the road, Friday night (Jan. 31).

With the win, the Blues improve to 16-5-1 and sit tied for third in the OUA with Laurier.

Toronto wasted no time getting on the board in the first period when Sonja Weidenfelder notched her seventh goal of the season in the first two minutes of the game. The score remained 1-0 at the end of the period.

The Lancers evened the score 14:02 into the second period after pressure in front of the net produced a goal from Candice Chevalier. The Blues created chances on a power play in the closing minutes of the period but were unable to capitalize, out shooting Windsor 11-9 in the frame.

With five minutes gone in the third period, Taylor Day and Weidenfelder created another opportunity, for team captain Kelly O`Hanlon for the eventual game-winner.

The Blues held their one goal lead for the remainder of the period. Nicole Kesteris recorded 18 saves with Michaela Logan adding eight in the win.

The Blues will be back in action tomorrow, when they take on the Western Mustangs in London, Ontario. Game is set for 4 p.m.
