Box Score Sonja Weidenfelder scored two goals and Nicole Kesteris earned the shut out as the No. 10 University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Ryerson Rams 2-0 on Saturday night (Jan. 11) at Mattamy Athletic Centre.
With the win, the Blues improve to 12-4-1 and move into third place in the OUA standings.
Weidenfelder opened the scoring 6:15 into the second period when she wired a low shot through traffic to find the back of the net on the powerplay.
The third-year forward and Toronto native added an empty-netter with 1:09 remaining to round out the two-goal win.
Kesteris, a fourth-year netminder from Aurora, Ont., posted 23 saves in her fifth shut out of the season.
The Varsity Blues return to the ice next Saturday, January 18 as they head to waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
