The Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team opened their 2013 regular season with an 8-5 loss to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday, September 7 at Varsity Centre.

The Marauders opened the game with three goals in the first 10 minutes before fourth-year middie Patrick Belisle (Regina) got the Blues on the board. McMaster added one more tally and led 4-1 after the first quarter.

Fifth-year attacker and University of Vermont transfer A.J. Masson (Newmarket, Ont.) notched two goals for U of T in the second quarter, only to be matched by the Marauders. The visitors led 6-3 at halftime.

After a lone Marauders goal in the third quarter, the Blues attempted to rally as Justin Crofts and Michael Buwalda scored with four minutes of each other midway through the fourth. Unfortunately for the Blues, they couldn't find the back of the net again and dropped the three-goal decision.

The Varsity Blues return to the field next Friday, September 13 as they head to Guelph, Ont., to take on the Gryphons. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
