FORMER BLUE TO ENTER HOCKEY HALL OF FAME

Longtime NHL broadcaster and former Varsity Blues men's hockey player Harry Neale is entering the Hockey Hall of Fame as the 2013 winner of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award.

The award recognizes outstanding contributions as a hockey broadcaster.

Neale graduated from U of T's Victoria College in 1960, after three years as a top defenceman on the Varsity Blues men's hockey team (1957-60).  Also an assistant captain, Neale helped the Blues to the 1958-59 OQAA title.

Born in Sarnia, Ont., Neale previously coached the Detroit Red Wings and served as general manager and head coach of the Vancouver Canucks, along with jobs in the WHA and NCAA.

He joined "Hockey Night in Canada" as an analyst in 1986, calling countless NHL games as well as two World Cups and three Olympics. He has spent the last six seasons as an analyst on Buffalo Sabres broadcasts.

Neale will receive his award at a luncheon presentation in Toronto on Nov. 11.
