As announced by College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Tuesday and Wednesday, four University of Toronto Varsity Blues have been named to the 2025-26 Academic All-America® At-Large teams.
Varsity Blues soccer veteran Hannah Chown and cross country and track standout Julia Agostinelli both received the honour for the Women's At-Large teams, while high jump specialist Aiden Grout and volleyball MVP Maxime Gratton were named to the Men's At-Large teams.
The CSC Academic All-America® program honours student-athletes who exhibit outstanding performance both within their sport and in the classroom. Selections are made from five categories of institutions spanning NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and the College Division. The College Division is comprised of institutions from two-year colleges, Canadian institutions, and other institutions who are not affiliated with the NCAA and NAIA divisions.
In the category of At-Large teams, there were nearly 74,000 women's student-athletes competing across all schools during the 2025-26 campaign, with 174 total women selected as Academic All-American. Meanwhile, more than 85,000 men's student-athletes competed in the At-Large category with 177 total men selected as Academic All-American. This amounted to just 0.2 percent of all at-large student-athletes earning the title of Academic All-American.
Named to the first team, Chown delivered on a historic final campaign with the women's soccer program. A Teaching major from Mississauga, she rounded out her five season Varsity Blues career serving as a key contributor to U of T's first ever OUA championship banner in women's soccer. A team captain and shutdown defender, she thwarted the top strikers from across the province, adding two goals and three assists on the other end of the pitch. This included scoring the thrilling game-winning goal in the OUA gold medal match. Her efforts earned her OUA all-star, OUA MVP, and U SPORTS All-Canadian recognition.
A second team selection, Agostinelli took to both the trail and the track this past season. Competing at four different championships, she earned both OUA all-star and U SPORTS All-Canadian honours on multiple occasions. Beginning in the fall with the cross country team, the Physical Therapy major from London placed second at the OUA Championships and fourth at the U SPORTS Championships. Shifting to the track, she then added two gold medals at the provincial showcase, winning both the 1000m and 1500m, while adding silver with her teammates in the 4x800m relay. And at the U SPORTS National Championships she would add two more silvers in the 1000m and 1500m.
Named to the second team, Gratton shine on the volleyball court in his lone season as a Varsity Blue. The Developmental Psychology & Education graduate student from Ottawa led the entire province in total points (340) and points per set (4.5) during the 2025-26 campaign. He additionally ranked second in the OUA in both total service aces (37) and aces per set (0.49), recording a service ace in all but two of his 19 regular season matches played. His 340 points placed him fourth in the U of T record book for best single season performances, and his outstanding play was rewarded with OUA first team all-star, OUA Player of the Year, and U SPORTS first team All-Canadian recognition.
Also on the second team, Grout rounded out his five seasons as a Varsity Blue with a fourth career OUA gold and third career U SPORTS gold in his signature event of the high jump. The Sustainability Management major from Pitt Meadows, B.C., was the lone athlete to clear 2.18m in the field of 12 at the national championships and the only to clear 2.17m of 17-entrants at the provincial championships. The OUA all-star and U SPORTS All-Canadian also registered the best high jump from across the country this past season, clearing a career best 2.23m at the Texas A&M Charlie Thomas Invitational in early-February.
Prior to the selection of Academic All-American honourees, CSC also recognizes Academic All-District® student-athletes. Joining the quartet above as All-District selections from the University of Toronto were Ben Loewen (Swimming), Teagan Vander Leek (Swimming) Jason Okpere (Track & Field), Hunter Arulpragasam (Volleyball), and Delaney Watson (Volleyball).
