Fourth-year forward Liane Bailey notched a game and career-high 18 points, but the University of Toronto Varsity Blues dropped a 61-47 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday, November 8 at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym.

With the home opener loss, the Blues fall to 0-3 to start their 2013-14 season, while the Hawks improve to 3-0.

Bailey (Montreal) was 7-of-13 from the floor and went 4-for-4 from the free throw line, while adding four boards on the night. Rookies Diedre Edwards of Ancaster, Ont., added eight points in the loss.

Rookie guard Sarah Dillon led the Hawks with 15 points, while fourth-year veteran Laura Doyle (Guelph, Ont.) drained four from beyond the arc en route to a 14-point and eight-board performance.

U of T trailed by one point (25-24) at halftime, but a 19-11 third quarter for the Hawks gave them the lead for good. Toronto attempted to rally, but three consecutive three-pointers from Doyle sealed the Laurier win.

The Varsity Blues look to bounce back tomorrow night as they host the Waterloo Warriors at the Athletic Centre Sports Gym. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
