Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team defeated the Windsor Lancers 3-1 on Saturday, November 2 at Varsity Arena.
With the win, the Blues improve to 6-1-1 and move into second place in the OUA standings, one point behind the Queen's Gaels.
The Lancers opened the scoring 7:22 into the game as fourth-year forward Jenny MacKnight (Regina) buried a Kayla Dodson (Windsor) point shot rebound on the powerplay.
The Blues responded three minutes later as Courtney Brind'Amour-McClure (Waterdown, Ont.) found Amanda Ricker (Ottawa) in the slot, who slid the puck past Lancers netminder Marissa Kozovski.
First-year defenceman Autumn Garnham (Portage la Prairie, Man.) notched her first career goal with 14 seconds remaining in the first period, receiving a pass from Ricker and wiring the puck into the top corner of the net.
The Blues led 2-1 after 20 minutes of action.
Team captain Kelly O'Hanlon put the Blues up by two towards the end of the second frame. The Markham, Ont., native received a nice cross-crease pass from linemate Taylor Day and tapped it home for her second goal of the season.
Kesteris posted 34 saves in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to the ice next Saturday, November 9 as they head to Kingston, Ont., for a battle with the Queen's Gaels. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.Â
