The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team fell 9-5 to the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 6) at Varsity Centre.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 3-5 with four games remaining in the regular season.
Fourth-year middie Michael Buwalda (Scarborough) led the Blues with three goals, while Marc Anthony Koukoulas tallied two in the loss.
Both teams got out to a slow start, with no scoring in the first 13 minutes of action. The Mustangs came alive and notched three unanswered goals to lead 3-0 after the first quarter.
Buwalda got the Blues on the board early in the second, but was answered back by Western. The visiting team held a 4-1 lead at halftime.
Western went ahead for good with three goals in the third and held off a rallying effort from Toronto in the fourth quarter.
The Varsity Blues return to action next Friday, October 11 as they travel to Hamilton, Ont., to take on the McMaster Marauders. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
