BLUES SUNK IN SHOOTOUT

Box Score The University of Toronto Varsity Blues women's hockey team fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday, October 26 in Sudbury, Ont.

With the loss, the Blues drop to 3-1-1 on the season, while Laurentian improves to 2-4-0.

After a scoreless first period, fourth-year forward Amanda Ricker (Ottawa) opened the scoring with a goal assisted by Alie Brind'Amour-McClure. Voyageurs forward Jessica Staats evened things up six minutes later with a powerplay marker and the game remained deadlocked at 1-1 at the second intermission.

Sophomore standout Taylor Day put the Blues ahead just 22 seconds into the third period; however Laurentian's Samantha Morell knotted it up once again six minutes later.
Overtime solved nothing and the game headed into a shootout.

Voyageurs captain Julie Herbert scored to take an early 1-0 lead, but  Kristi Riseley evened it up as U of T's third shooter. Morell then notched the game-winner as the Voyageurs secured the 3-2 victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow night as they head to North Bay, Ont., to take on the Nipissing Lakers. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
