The University of Toronto Varsity Blues men's lacrosse team dropped a narrow 9-8 decision to the Western Mustangs in CUFLA playoff action Friday night in London, Ont.
With the loss, the Blues cap off their 2013 season with a 4-9 record, while the Mustangs advance to the Baggataway Cup next weekend.
Fourth-year middie Michael Buwalda scored five of Toronto's eight goals, while Eric Shedlosky had two and Justin Crofts added one in the loss.
Down 4-2 after the first quarter, the Blues and Mustangs kept even in the second frame as Western held a 6-4 at halftime.
The two squads went back and forth in the third, with the Mustangs maintaining the two-goal lead (8-6) heading into the fourth quarter.
Then came the Blues rally. Shedlosky and Crofts scored just over a minute apart to even the score with 14:38 remaining in the game. Unfortunately for the Blues, the Mustangs found the back of the net with 4:21 to go to secure the win and extend their post-season.
