BLUES UPSET NO. 5 GAELS

Box Score The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team defeated the No. 5 Queen’s Gaels 2-1 on Saturday night (Jan. 19) at Kingston Memorial Centre.
 
Fifth-year forward Callie Bazak (Peterborough, Ont.) scored with 40 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime, and sophomore forward Courtney Tougas (Thunder Bay, Ont.) notched the shoot out winner.
 
Queen’s opened the scoring midway through the first period with a powerplay goal from Chantal Morais. The Blues trailed the entire game, and managed to kill off 10 penalties before pulling their goaltender with 1:17 remaining in the third period.
 
Third-year goaltender Nicole Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.) made 40 saves in the victory.
 
The Varsity Blues return to the ice tomorrow afternoon as they host the Ryerson Rams in the sixth annual Think Pink Game at Varsity Arena. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
