Box Score The Laurier Golden Hawks scored five second-period goals in a 6-1 victory over the Varsity Blues women’s hockey team on Friday night (Jan. 11) in Waterloo, Ont.
The No. 4 Hawks improve to 15-1-2 and remain atop the OUA standings, while the Blues drop to 9-8-1 and sit in sixth place.
Deadlocked at 0-0 after the first period, Laurier potted two goals in the first four minutes of the second period to jumpstart their offensive attack. They would go ahead by three with a powerplay marker, before veteran forward Callie Bazak (Peterborough, Ont.) netted what would be Toronto’s lone goal of the game at the 11:23 mark.
The Hawks notched two more to end the second period with a 5-1 advantage, and added a second powerplay goal early in the third to round out the scoring.
Nicole Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.) made 12 saves through two periods of work, with Krista Funke (Regina) added seven stops in the third period.
The Varsity Blues look to bounce back on Sunday, January 13 as they host the Waterloo Warriors at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
