Six unanswered goals in the second quarter would be the Varsity Blues demise as they dropped a 14-7 decision to the McMaster Marauders in CUFLA action on Sunday, September 30 at Alumni Field in Hamilton, Ont.
The Blues (1-7) and Marauders (1-6) remain tied for sixth in the CUFLA East division, with McMaster holding a game in hand.
Toronto got off to a good start and found themselves leading 3-1 after the first quarter. The home team took over from there, outscoring U of T 7-1 in the second frame to gain a lead that would not diminish.
The Blues battled back to bring the game within three (9-6) heading into the fourth; however the Marauders shut down the Blues from there, scoring five goals and limiting Toronto to just one in the fourth quarter.
Corey Wright led the Blues with two goals, while Michael Buwalda and Jordan Robertson each had a goal and an assist in the loss.
The Varsity Blues will look to bounce back in a rematch versus the Marauders next Friday, October 5 at Varsity Centre. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
