BLUES GET PAST WARRIORS

The Varsity Blues field hockey team notched a 2-1 win over the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, September 29 in Guelph, Ont.

With the win, the Blues improve to 6-0 and remain atop the OUA standings.

Third-year forward Alex Thicke opened the scoring in the eighth minute and the Blues carried that 1-0 lead into halftime.

Veteran defender Kelley Lusk (North Vancouver) extended U of T’s lead to two in the 63rd minute with a goal off a short corner. The Warriors finally got on the board two minutes later with a short-corner goal by Courtney Bisch.

Blues goaltender Katy Jo Williams played a solid game in net, denying numerous late penalty corner opportunities to secure the win.

The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow as they travel to take on the Guelph Gryphons in a re-match of the 2012 OUA final tomorrow (Sept. 30) at 2:15 p.m.
