MEN’S TENNIS COME UP SHORT VS MARAUDERS, MUSTANGS

The OUA defending champion Varsity Blues men’s tennis team fell 5-2 to the McMaster Marauders and 4-3 to the Western Mustangs this weekend (Sept. 22-23).

The Marauders took all three doubles matches on Saturday, with 8-5, 8-3, and 8-7 wins in the No. 1-3 positions, respectively.

Nick Somody and Daniel Rozin accounted for Toronto’s two points in the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches. Somody defeated McMaster’s Dave Pinto 6-3, 6-2, while Rozin notched a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win.

Somody paired up with Ivan Markovic to take the No. 1 doubles match vs the Mustangs, 8-6, on Sunday afternoon. Niclas Werthmoler and Peter Kroll then took the No. 3 match 8-5 to solidify the doubles point for the Blues.

Western showed their strength in singles play, taking 4-of-6 possible points. Markovic and Somody pulled through with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, but it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs earned the win.

The Varsity Blues return to the courts next Saturday, September 29 as they host the Montreal Carabins at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus.
