The Varsity Blues men’s rugby team dropped a 34-5 decision to the RMC Paladins on Saturday, September 22 at the Varsity Centre.
The Blues defensive play stopped early attempts by RMC, though the Paladins were eventually able to score first on a try by Clarke O’Reilly (Kitchener, Ont.).
Toronto’s offence responded as Simon Clarke-Okah (Ottawa) streaked down the field and recovered the ball in the end zone five minutes later. However, RMC capped off the first half with two more tries and conversions to take a 19-5 lead into halftime.
Despite multiple attempts by the Blues, their offence was unable to capture any more points. Late in the second half, the Paladins were able to add to their tally, scoring two more tries as well as a penalty goal from Sam Hogg (Romteln, Alta.).
With the loss, Toronto (0-3-0) sits tied for eighth place, while RMC’s (1-3-0) first win of the season moves them into seventh place on the OUA standings.
The Varsity Blues return to action against the Western Mustangs on Sunday, September 30 in London, Ont.
