The Varsity Blues field hockey team extended their win streak to four with dominant 7-1 and 3-0 wins over the Western Mustangs and York Lions, respectively, on Saturday, September 22 at Varsity Centre.
In the first game of the day, 2011 CIS rookie of the year Amanda Woodcroft (Waterloo, Ont.) got the Blues on the board in the sixth minute of the game. U of T controlled the play for the majority of the first half, but it was Western who would strike next as Kaitlyn Roganowicz found the back of the net.
Tied 1-1 going into the second half, the Blues stepped it up, scoring six unanswered goals to secure the win. Third-year forward Ally Evanyshyn of Burlington, Ont., scored a hat trick, with third-year transfer Tegan Stairs (Kitchener, Ont.) adding two of her own. Veteran defender Kelley Lusk (North Vancouver, B.C.) also scored in the win.
The Blues carried their momentum over to the second game of the day. Lusk notched what would be the game-winner in the 20
th minute, before Evanyshyn added two more, her fourth and fifth of the day.
Veteran goalie Katherine Williams earned the shut out in net.
