MUSTANGS MUSCLE PAST BLUES

The Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team suffered a tough 10-6 loss versus the Western Mustangs on Friday, September 21 at Varsity Centre.

Corey Wright (Newmarket, Ont.) led the Blues with two goals, while Western’s Ryan McCrory (Clarington, Ont.) tallied a game-high three in the win.

Second-yard Blues middie Jordan Robertson (Toronto) opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game; however, Western’s Matt Fisher (Toronto) responded five minutes later with a point of his own. Both teams netted another point before the end of the first quarter to tie the game at two apiece.

Toronto’s only goal in the second period was scored by Justin Crofts (Toronto), in the last minute of play. Western netted four goals, including McCrory’s first two, helping the Mustangs take an 8-3 lead into halftime.

The Blues responded in the third, with Wright’s first goal of the game, only to be answered back by two goals from Western.

Toronto made a strong offensive effort in the fourth quarter, netting two more goals, but it wasn’t enough as the Mustangs notched their second win over the Blues this season.

The Varsity Blues next game is Saturday, September 29 against the Gryphons in Guelph, Ont. Game time is 7 p.m.
