The Varsity Blues women’s tennis team defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks and York Lions 7-0, and fell to the McGill Martlets 6-1 as they opened their 2012 season this past weekend (Sept. 14-16).
 
The Blues dominated the Ridgebacks on Friday in Oshawa, Ont. U of T won the No. 2 and 3 doubles matches, while also taking all six singles matches to secure the win.
 
Toronto ran into a tough Martlets squad at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus on Saturday. McGill took all three doubles matches and 5-of-6 singles matches, with only Aya Bara earning a single point in the No. 1 spot. The Vaughn, Ont., native defeated Lia A. 7-5, 6-3 for the win.
 
U of T ended the weekend with a very successful showing versus the Lions. Toronto took every doubles and single point to earn the 7-0 victory.
 
The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, September 22 as they travel to Hamilton, Ont., to take on the McMaster Marauders. Matches are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
