The Varsity Blues men’s rugby team fell 45-10 to the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday, September 16 at Varsity Centre.
With the loss, the Blues drop to 0-2 on the season, while the Warriors improve to 2-1 and sit in third place.
Third-year Blues veteran Nicholas Smith opened the scoring with U of T’s first try of the season in the fifth minute of the match. However, the Warriors responded with three more tries and built a 19-5 lead at the half.
After two more Waterloo tries, Nader Mohamed touched down for the Blues second try of the game in the 30
th minute of the second half. The Warriors added two more to round out the win.
Richard Lebel led the Warriors with two tries and four conversion kicks for 18 points, while Philipp Dreessen added two tries of his own in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, September 22 as they host the RMC Paladins at Varsity Centre. Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m.
