BLUES HOST LANCERS SATURDAY

The Varsity Blues football team hosts the Windsor Lancers to cap off Blue & White spirit week on Saturday, September 15 at Varsity Centre.

The game will be streamed via SSN Canada and live stats will be available starting at 1 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance here.

Saturday also marks U of T’s annual Shriner’s Game, with the Booster Juice Fun Zone available to fans when gates open at 11:30 a.m.  For more information on game promotions, click here.

Both Toronto (1-1) and Windsor (1-1) are coming off tough Week 2 losses and will be looking to revitalize their offence on Saturday. The Blues dropped a 62-7 decision to the No. 5 Western Mustangs, while the Lancers fell to the Guelph Gryphons 28-9.

The Lancers defeated the Blues for the eighth consecutive time with a 38-5 win in their 2011 season opener. The Blues hold a slight upper hand with a 20-19-0 head-to-head record, dating back to their first meeting in 1973. U of T last defeated Windsor, 13-11, on Oct. 13, 2001.

Blues sophomore quarterback and Ajax, Ont., native Richard Quittenton will look to rookie running back Ashton Nelson (Brampton, Ont.) and third-year receiver Alex Pierzshalski (London, Ont.) to lead Toronto’s offence on Saturday.

John Connors has also had a stellar start to the season, leading the Blues and ranking seventh in the OUA with 12 tackles. The first-year defensive back from Barrie, Ont., led the Blues with six tackles in Toronto’s Week 1 shut out of the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Windsor QB Austin Kennedy holds a hot hand, currently leading the OUA with 363 yards a game and six majors. The third-year business major from Windsor has also rushed for 88 yards in two games this season.

The Blues will also have to look out for fifth-year linebacker Brad Adams (LaSalle, Ont.) who ranks second in the province with 17 tackles in 2012.
