BLUES SECURE FOUR-POINT WEEKEND

The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team notched their third straight win with a 3-1 victory over the Western Mustangs on Sunday afternoon at Thompson Arena.

The win improves Toronto to 14-9-1 as they remain in third place, two points ahead of the York Lions (13-10-1).

Third-year forward Kelly O’Hanlon (Markham, Ont.) opened the scoring on Toronto’s first powerplay of the game, tallying her second goal of the weekend 1:46 into the game.

The Blues extended their lead late in the second period when veteran defenceman Brittany Kirby added Toronto’s second powerplay goal of the contest. The Blues were 2-of-6 on the man advantage in the win.

Sophomore standout Amanda Ricker of Ottawa put the Blues up by three early in the third period but the Mustangs would spoil the shut out five minutes later when Casey Rosen scored a shorthanded, unassisted goal.

Blues rookie goalie Krista Funke posted 31 saves in the win.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice on Saturday, February 11 when they host their fifth annual Cheer Blue, Think Pink game versus the UOIT Ridgebacks at Varsity Arena.  Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
