BLUES READY TO DEFEND OUA TITLE

The Varsity Blues women’s water polo team travels to Ottawa this weekend (Nov. 23-25) for the 2012 OUA championship hosted by the Carleton Ravens.

Toronto looks to repeat as OUA champions, after claiming the 2011 title with a 9-4 win over the Ravens last November. The Blues have met Carleton in the last four OUA gold-medal matches, with both teams earning the title twice.

U of T has claimed the OUA banner four times in program history (1988, 1993, 2008, 2011), with Carleton winning a record eight titles.

The Blues look to fifth-year veteran and 2011 championship MVP Casey Pottier to lead them to victory once again this season. Toronto also returns 2011 most valuable goaltender Breanna Gadzosa.

Toronto opens the 2012 championship versus the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Friday night. The Blues then take on the McMaster Marauders and host Ravens on Saturday, before wrapping up pool play versus the Queen’s Gaels on Sunday. The top two seeds after the round robin will play for gold on Sunday at 3:50 p.m.
