The Varsity Blues men’s rugby team dropped a 53-0 decision to the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, October 20 at Varsity Centre.
With the loss, the Blues remain winless on the year, holding an 0-7-0 record. The Gryphons are undefeated, improving to 7-0-0 and sit in first place in the OUA Standings.
Despite a valiant effort on behalf of the Blues, the Gryphons were simply too much to handle. The Blues had several opportunities to complete a try but was ultimately stopped by the Gryphons.
The Gryphons opened up the scoring in the first half when Waterdown, Ont., native Joe Newman of the scored a try, the eventual game-winner. With a total of eight tries, and the ability to convert on five opportunities the Gryphons came out with a dominating effort.
The Varsity Blues cap off their 2012 regular season next Saturday, October 27st when they take on the Laurier Golden Hawks at University Stadium in Waterloo, Ont. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
