BLUES NOTCH SECOND STRAIGHT SHOOTOUT WIN

Box Score Courtney Tougas proved to be the shootout hero as the Varsity Blues women’s hockey team defeated the Waterloo Warriors 2-1 on Saturday, October 13 at RIM Park arena.
 
With the win, the Blues improve to 2-0-1, while the Warriors drop to 0-1-2.
 
After a scoreless first period, the Warriors opened the scoring with a goal from Katie Dodds midway through the second frame.
 
Second-year Blues forward Sonja Weidenfelder evened the score seven minutes into the third, with a goal assisted by Brittany Kirby and Kelly O’Hanlon.
 
U of T outshot the home team 4-0 in the overtime period, but could not solve Warriors netminder Rebecca Bouwhuis.
 
Tougas scored in the fourth round of the sudden death shoot out to secure the win.
 
Sophomore goaltender Krista Funke made 27 saves in the win.
 
The Varsity Blues return to the ice tomorrow night as they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
