BLUES REBOUND WITH WIN OVER HAWKS

The Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team avenged last week’s 8-6 loss with a 14-11 victory over the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday, October 13 at Back Campus.

Four goals for Jordan Robertson (Toronto) and three goals for Mike Ayotte (Peterborough, Ont.) helped Toronto to their win.

The Blues opened scoring in the first minute on a goal by Jeremy Hayton (Stratford, Ont.). However, three unanswered goals helped put Laurier ahead 4-2 at the end of the first quarter.

Laurier continued pressuring the Varsity Blues in the second quarter, but Toronto was able to retake the lead with four straight goals, including two from Ayotte.

Capitalizing on penalties for Laurier, the Blues continued to show strong offence scoring five goals in the third quarter. The Golden Hawks responded with three goals of their own, but were unable to close the gap in scoring.

The fourth quarter showed more offensive prowess from the Varsity Blues, who scored another three goals. Four goals for Laurier, including two from Jay Szabolcs (Orangeville, Ont.), helped keep the Golden Hawks in the game until the final minutes; however, they were unable to close the lead Toronto had built in the previous two quarters.

With the win, the Varsity Blues move into fourth place over the Golden Hawks, who drop to fifth in the CUFLA western standings.

The men’s lacrosse team play again tomorrow, Sunday, October 14, against Brock University at Varsity Centre. Game time is 6:30 p.m.
