The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team fell 2-0 to the York Lions on Saturday, January 7 at Canlan Ice Sports in Toronto.
Both teams are now 8-7-1 and tied for fifth place in the OUA.
The Blues struggled to convert on the powerplay, going 0-for-5 over 60 minutes of action. The game also marked the second time this season that U of T was unable to register a goal.
“We had trouble capitalizing on our early scoring chances,” said Varsity Blues head coach Vicky Sunohara. “They scored on their first and after that we struggled to generate opportunities. We have a lot to work on at practice in preparation for next week.”
The Lions opened the scoring 7:35 into the first period with a goal from Dallas Boyd. Team captain Chloe Milano added an insurance marker with 42 seconds remaining in the second frame to round out the scoring.
First-year goaltender and Regina native Krista Funke posted 23 saves in the loss.
U of T will look to rebound next Saturday, January 14 as they host the Waterloo Warriors (6-8-2) at Varsity Arena. The puck drops at 4 p.m.
