BLUES HUNTING FOR FOUR POINTS THIS WEEKEND

The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team host two crucial games versus the RMC Paladins and Queen’s Gaels this Friday and Saturday night (Jan. 27-28) at Varsity Arena.

Both games will be streamed live on SSN Canada via varsityblues.ca starting at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are available: click here or call 416-946-3811.

The OUA East standings are so close that only four points separate third and eighth place.  The Blues are currently 11-8-3 and tied with the Ryerson Rams and Ottawa Gee-Gees for the sixth spot.

Wins over the 10th place Paladins (3-19-1) and ninth-place Gaels (10-9-2) will be vital for Varsity as they look to move into a hosting position for playoffs.

The Blues are 3-3 since the December break, including wins over both RMC and Queen’s.  Fourth-year forward Byron Elliott (Burlington, Ont.) continues to lead the team with 15 goals and 14 points, ranking him 11th in the province.

Scarborough, Ont., native Kyle Ventura has really stepped up his play in 2012, with five points in six games.  Ventura has 13 goals and six assists in 22 games so far this season.  Assistant captain Dan Brewer leads the team with 15 assists.

First- and second-year goaltenders Brett Willows and Garrett Sheehan have split duties between the pipes and hold 0.906 and 0.907 save percentages respectively. Sheehan was named the OUA male athlete of the week for the period ending Jan. 15 after a 39-save performance in a 4-3 win over the No. 2 McGill Redmen.
