The Varsity Blues women’s tennis team went 2-1 to open their 2011 season this past weekend (Sept. 16-18).
The Blues swept all single and doubles matches for a 7-0 victory over the UOIT Ridgebacks on Friday night in Oshawa, Ont.
U of T then ran into trouble, dropping a 5-2 decision to the McGill Martlets on Saturday. The Blues won all three doubles matches, including a dominant 8-0 win by Jocelyn Luk and Anna Sullivan in the number one position, to earn a single point. The Martlets went on to dominate in singles action, with Julia Mansfield earning the lone point in the number six spot.
The Blues rebounded on Sunday with a narrow 4-3 victory over the York Lions. U of T earned one point in each of the number one, two and three singles matches, with York taking three points in the bottom of the order. The difference came in Toronto’s doubles play, with the Blues taking two of three matches to earn the winning point.
The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, September 24 when they face the McMaster Marauders in Hamilton, Ont.
