BLUES DROP SEASON OPENER TO REDMEN

The Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team fell 16-9 to the McGill Redmen on Saturday, September 10 at Back Campus.

Blues defender and Newmarket, Ont., native Corey Wright opened the scoring, pouncing on a turnover in the defensive end and carrying the ball the length of the field before beating the Redmen goaltender to put the Blues up 1-0 in the early going. The Blues saw three-goal performances from Toronto natives Michael Buwalda and Tyler Weber, but were ultimately unable to find an answer for the Redmen offense.

After taking a one-goal lead at the midway point of the first quarter, the Blues allowed seven unanswered goals before Daniel Fleming (Toronto) responded to end McGill’s run. The Blues managed to outscore the Redmen 6-2 in the final quarter, but were unable to overcome the defecit.

McGill was led by Leland de Langley who registered four points, including three goals, to lead the Redmen to their first win of the season.

The Blues return to action on Saturday, September 17 when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
