M-HOCKEY PLAYOFF PREVIEW: TORONTO VS CARLETON

The Varsity Blues men’s hockey team is set to do battle with the Carleton Ravens in a best-of-three OUA playoff series, starting Wednesday, February 16 at Varsity Arena.

The Blues finished the regular season with a 10-11-7 record in sixth place, while the Ravens (18-8-2) were third in the OUA East division. The two teams have not met since Nov. 6, when the Ravens recorded a 4-2 win in Ottawa. Toronto won the first game of the season series in a 4-3 shootout victory on Oct. 29.

U of T will host Carleton in Game 1 on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. The game will be streamed live on SSN Canada through www.varsityblues.ca. The two teams will then head to Ottawa for Game 2 on Friday night and, if necessary, Game 3 on Saturday night at the Ice House. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. on both nights.

The Varsity Blues hold an all-time record of 12-6 versus the Ravens, including two OUA semi-final victories in 1969 and 1971.

Blake Boddy and Anthony Bergin have each had stellar rookie campaigns, with 22 and 27 points, respectively.

Carleton is led by Joey Manley and Brandon MacLean, who are ranked eighth in OUA scoring with 36 points apiece. Rookie goaltender Matthew Dopud leads the OUA with a 2.11 goals against average in 17 games played, while veteran keeper Ryan Dube also holds an impressive 0.905 save percentage.
