Will Dunlop scored four goals to lead the Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team to a 10-9 victory over the Queen’s Gaels on Saturday, October 8 at Varsity Centre.
With the win, the Blues (4-3) draw even with Bishop’s for second place in the East.
Dunlop (Windsor, Ont.) scored back-to-back goals in both the first and fourth quarters, and added two assists to give him a total of six points on the night. Toronto native Michael Buwalda had two goals and two assists and Tyler Weber (Toronto) also had a two-goal performance to put him in third place among CUFLA goal leaders.
The Blues trailed for most of the first half, as both teams traded goals in a back-and-forth contest. But back-to-back goals from Dunlop at 12:40 and 7:20 of the fourth quarter would put the Blues ahead for good. The Gaels Kevin Harper scored short-handed with 48 seconds remaining in the game to make things interesting, but the Blues would ultimately hang on for the win.
Harper led the Gaels with a hat-trick, and Matt Eriksen put up two goals and an assist in the losing cause.
The Blues next game is Saturday, October 15 when they will take on the Excalibur at Trent University. Game time is 7 p.m.
