NO. 9 BLUES BATTLE ELEMENTS TO EDGE EXCALIBUR

Second-year striker Mario Kovacevic scored two goals as the No. 9 Varsity Blues men’s soccer team defeated the Trent Excalibur 3-0 on Wednesday night at Varsity Centre.

With the win, the Blues improve to 10-2-2 and clinch second place in the OUA East division.

After a scoreless first half and a 30-minute lightning delay, Kovacevic got the Blues on the board in the 62nd minute, notching his 10th goal of the season.

The Woodbridge, Ont., native then put the Blues up by two in the 84th minute, receiving a cross from fourth-year midfielder Geoffrey Borgmann and diving in the pouring rain to make the kick past Trent goalkeeper Josip Bosnjak.

Second-year midfielder James Greatorex rounded out the scoring one minute later with his second tally of the season.

Blues goalkeeper Russell Moore made one save to earn the shut out victory

The Varsity Blues return to the field this Saturday, October 22 as they head to Ottawa to take on the No. 3 Carleton Ravens.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
