BLUES EDGE MUSTANGS 3-2

Brenley Jorgensen and Robyn Law combined for four points as the Varsity Blues came away with a 3-2 victory over the Western Mustangs in OUA women’s hockey action on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 30) at Thompson Arena.

With the win, the Blues improve to 12-11-0 and remain in sixth place.

After a scoreless first period, Jorgensen (Kingston, Ont.) got the Blues on the board 57 seconds into the second frame with a marker assisted by Law.

The Blues would gain a two-goal lead five minutes later as Law netted a powerplay goal assisted by veteran forwards Lindsay Hill and Karolina Urban.

Western narrowed Toronto’s lead to one with four minutes remaining in the second as Katie Dillon found a hole past Blues goaltender Nicole Kesteris (Aurora, Ont.).

U of T capitalized on another man advantage at the 12:38 mark of the third as second-year defenceman Marlie McLaughlin of Ottawa netted her first career goal for the eventual game-winner.

Dillon would add her second of the game with just over a minute remaining, but the Blues would hold on for the one-goal victory.

The Varsity Blues return to action next Saturday, February 5 when they host the York Lions in their final regular season home game. The Blues will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of the 2000-01 perfect season and CIS championship team. Be there for puck drop at 4 p.m.
