The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team was held scoreless as they dropped a 5-0 decision to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, January 29 at South Windsor Arena.
With the loss, the Blues (12-11-0) drop two spots in the standings to sixth place, while the Lancers improve to 13-9-0 and are tied with the Queen’s Gaels for fourth.
The Lancer ladies came out strong, scoring an early powerplay goal from Courtney Spoors to take the lead. Not long after that Candace Kourinis popped another one with 1:50 remaining in the first period.
The Lancer’s were unstoppable from then on, capitalizing on many chances scoring one in the second period and two in the third as U of T got into some penalty trouble.
The Blues were 0-for-6 on the powerplay, while Windsor capitalized on two of their six chances. Rookie goaltender Nicole Kesteris made 27 saves in the losing cause.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow (Jan. 30) when they travel to London, Ont., to take on the Western Mustangs. The puck drops at 2 p.m.
