GAELS GET PAST BLUES

The Varsity Blues women’s hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Queen’s Gaels on Friday, January 14 at Kingston Memorial Centre.

With the loss, the Blues (10-9-0) are now tied with the Gaels (8-7-4) for fourth place in the competitive OUA standings.

Becky Conroy would open the scoring four minutes into the game and Kelsey Thomson netted the eventual game-winner five minutes later as the Gaels built a 2-0 lead after the first period of play.

Queen’s would go on to score four unanswered goals in the second period to put the game away for good.

Blues captain Karolina Urban of Kamloops, B.C., scored Toronto’s lone marker with just under four minutes remaining in the game. The goal was assisted by Lindsay Hill and Robyn Law.

Goaltender Melissa DiPetta made 21 saves in her debut as a Varsity Blue.

The Varsity Blues return to the ice tomorrow when they take on the UOIT Ridgebacks in Oshawa, Ont., tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.
