The Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team overcame a 5-1 deficit at halftime to come back and defeat the Trent Excalibur 13-6 on Saturday, September 25 at Varsity Centre.
The win marked Toronto’s first victory since Sept. 13, 2008 when they beat the Bishop’s Gaiters 6-3 at Back Campus.
The Blues got off to a slow start as Trent took a four-goal lead at the midway point of the game. Third-year attacker Will Dunlop of Toronto accounted for the Blues lone goal of the first half.
U of T came out looking like a new team in the second half and went on to score 12 unanswered goals before the Excalibur added one in the final minute of the game. Blues leading scorer Michael Buwalda (Toronto) led the team with four goals, while veteran defenceman Mike Ayotte of Peterborough, Ont., had three goals and two assists in the victory.
Daniel Fleming tallied three goals, with Eric Shedlosky, Matthew Hoskins and Daniel Fleming adding one apiece in the win.
The Varsity Blues return to action on Saturday, October 9 when they travel to Ottawa to take on the Carleton Ravens. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
