BLUES NARROWLY FALL TO MONTREAL

The Varsity Blues women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Montreal Carabins on Sunday, September 19 at Scarborough Campus.

After Daria Zakharchenko and Roxana Soica fell 8-6 to Kim Polisois and Karine Bourdages in the number one doubles match, the Blues went on to win in both the number two and three positions to take the point*.

Aisha Bhimla and Anna Sullivan took the number two match 8-6, before Cecilia Pye and Paul Jaksic paired up to win 8-4 in the number three spot.

Unfortunately for the Blues, Polisois continued her winning ways in the number one singles match and Celine Belanger took the number two game for Montreal as well. That, and victories in both the number four and five positions, would solidify the win for the Carabins.

Toronto’s Roxana Soica defeated Melodie Nicoux 6-2, 7-5 in the number three position, while Jaksic handily won the number six match for Toronto 6-1, 6-0.

The Varsity Blues return to the court on Friday, September 25 when they host the UOIT Ridgebacks at Scarborough Campus. Matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

*Scoring: Score 1 point per match win for singles and 1 point for the team winning 2 or 3
doubles matches, for a total of 7 points
