The Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team fell 11-6 to the McGill Redmen in their 2010 home opener on Sunday, September 19 at Back Campus.
Toronto attacker Will Dunlop opened the scoring in the first three minutes of play, only to be answered back by three goals from McGill. Fellow Toronto native Michael Buwalda added one before time expired and the Redmen held a narrow 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
McGill outscored U of T 4-1 throughout the second with Andrew Kerr (Clarington, Ont.) potting the Blue lone goal.
In what would be a defensive third quarter, Redmen leading scorer Noah Miller netted the only goal, his third of the game, to extend the gap further.
Kerr added his second of the game early in the fourth; however, McGill would score three more in the span of four minutes to widen the score for good. Patrick Belisle of Regina added two in the final 34 seconds, but it was too little, too late as the final whistle blew.
Kerr, Belisle and Buwalda led the Blues with two goals apiece, while Dunlop had one in the loss.
Miller scored a game-high four goals and Ryan Besse added two goals and one assist for the Redmen in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to the field next Saturday, September 25 when they host the Trent Excalibur at Varsity Centre at 7 p.m.
