The Varsity Blues defeated the McMaster Marauders 5-2 in their first game of the 2010 season on Saturday, September 18 at Scarborough Campus.

U of T took the doubles point*, handily defeating the Marauders in the number two, three and four matches.

After Cecilia Pye beat McMaster’s Natalie Dies in the number two match, U of T’s Aisha Bhimla, Anna Sullivan and Nina Garcia followed suit, each defeating their Marauders counterparts in the number three, four and five spots, respectively.

U of T number one and 2009 OUA all-star Daria Sakharchenko ran into a tough competitor in McMaster’s Shi Skandarajah and Toronto’s Sandra Dedesko dropped a close three-set match to Olga Shynka in the number six spot.

*Scoring: Score 1 point per match win for singles and 1 point for the team winning 2 or 3
