Michael Buwalda and Daniel Fleming scored three goals apiece as the Varsity Blues men’s lacrosse team dropped a 15-10 decision to the Carleton Ravens at the second annual Great Canadian LAX Bash on Saturday, September 18 at Lamport Stadium.
Buwalda opened the scoring early; however, Carleton went on to score five unanswered goals before Fleming potted his first of the game. The Ravens would add one more before Buwalda closed out the second half with an even-strength goal assisted by Fleming. Carleton held a 7-3 lead at halftime.
Buwalda and Fleming narrowed the gap with one goal each in the opening three minutes of the third quarter. Will Dunlop and Corey Wright added two more to battle Carleton’s strong offensive pressure as U of T narrowed the gap to three heading into the final frame.
Unfortunately for the Blues, Carleton came out strong in the fourth, scoring four goals in the first 11 minutes. Despite a late rallying attempt, Toronto was unable to complete the comeback by the final whistle.
Buwalda led the Blues with three goals and two assists, while Fleming had four points in the loss.
Carleton was led by Tim Bergin and Shane Davidson, who both had seven points in the victory.
The Varsity Blues return to action tomorrow when they host the McGill Redmen at Back Campus. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
