The Varsity Blues men’s rugby team dropped a 20-15 decision to the Waterloo Warriors on Wednesday, September 15 at Scarborough Campus.
The Blues continue to show vast improvement this season, keeping the game within a single try after falling to the Warriors 84-7 in 2009.
The Warriors came out strong to in the first three minutes of the game and scored on a long run down the stretch of the field; However, U of T rallied and went on to play a physical first half. Haddon Murray (Toronto) capped off a long Blues drive when he inched over the line for his first try of the game.
Waterloo began to show their strength in the second half and were able to capitalize to pull out the win. Waterloo natives Richard Lebel and Adam Fitzpatrick as well as Zach Bogdon (Cambridge, Ont.) and Zach Bentley of Picton, Ont., accounted for the Warriors tries.
Murray would add another try in the second half, while Alex Dwhytie (Etobicoke, Ont.) added to U of T’s point tally with one convert and one penalty goal in the loss.
The Varsity Blues return to action this Sunday, September 19 when they host the Queen’s Gaels at Scarborough Campus. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
