The Varsity Blues men’s rugby team fell 50-12 to the Brock Badgers in their 2010 season opener on Saturday, September 11 in St. Catharines, Ont.
U of T has shown great improvement since 2009 and held strong for a good portion of the first half; however, an experienced Badgers squad eventually found some holes and capitalized, with Sam Rimmer of Cheltenham, Ont. leading the way.
Rimmer contributed three tries and kicked five converts to notch 25 points. The Badgers also received two tries from Connor Fitzsimmons (Markham, Ont.) and one each from Mike Berry (Brockville, Ont.), Chris Feasby (Uxbridge, Ont.) and Dylan Mundy (Sutton, Ont.).
Ricardo Gibson of Maho Bay, Virgin Islands and Toronto native Haddon Murray scored for the Blues, while Benny Mak converted Murray's try to round out U of T's point total.
The Blues return to action this Wednesday, September 15 when they host the Waterloo Warriors at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus. Game time is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
